Wired ResNet Configuration for
MAC OS X
1)
Make sure
you have a Category 5 Ethernet cable. (Note: A phone cable will not
work. A Category 5 Ethernet cable has 8 pins on each end.)
2) Plug
one end of the Ethernet cable into the network card on your computer and
plug the other end into the Ethernet jack on the wall. Like the Ethernet
cable, the Ethernet jack in the wall will have 8 pins or teeth.
Berry Residents: BOTH Ethernet jacks are located on the same side
of the room. This means both Ethernet jacks are above one desk, so one
student will need to run a cable from one side of the room to the other.
Warren Place Residents: There is only one Ethernet jack in each
room. It is labeled in the following format: room number/D - #
(Example: 124/D – 4)
Do NOT plug into any jacks labeled with “PR”.
McAlister, Liberty St. Dorm, & George St. Apartments: The Ethernet
jacks in these dorms should be blue.
3) Click
your Internet browser (Safari). If you have a connection, you should be
directed to a page titled “Cougar ResNet Authentication”. If you reach
this page, you have a connection to the network and everything is
configured and plugged in correctly. After
you sign in on the “Cougar ResNet Authentication” page, you should be able
to open your browser and begin using the internet. Mac users are not
required to install Clean Access. You do NOT have to continue any
further in this document.
If you did not reach the
“Cougar ResNet Authentication” page, please follow the instructions
below.
4) Select
System Preferences from the Apple Menu and select Network.
A screen similar to the one shown below should appear.

5) From
the Location menu, select Automatic.
6) Click
Show, and select Built-in Ethernet from the drop-down menu.
7) From
the Configure IPv4 menu, select
Using DHCP.
8) The
DHCP Client ID, DNS Servers, and Search Domains boxes should
all be blank. Delete any information already present in these fields.
9) Click
Apply Now to save the changes you have made.
10)
The IP Address should begin with 10 and be in the following
format: 10.x.x.x
You should now be connected to ResNet.
If you reach the page titled “Cougar ResNet
Authentication”, you have a connection.
11) After
you sign in on the “Cougar ResNet Authentication” page, you should be able
to open your browser and begin using the internet. Mac users are not
required to install Clean Access.
If
you still cannot access the internet, please contact Campus Technologies
at 723-1312. Please specify that you have a Mac.
